Making a movie or a documentary around Mount Bromo is certainly possible with the necessary permits. It isn't that hard to arrange, but should be organized.

Making a movie or a documentary at Mt. Bromo and the National Park
To create a movie or a documentary in the National Park Bromo-Tengger-Semeru, several requirements need to be met before a license is given out by the authorities of the National Park (NP).

Step 1 - Permit arrangement
What needs to be prepared for a permit going by the name SIMAKSI:
- What is your purpose: are you going to make a movie, a commercial or a documentary?
- What dates would you like to start and to end filming?
- Write a synopsis
- Mention in detail what cameras you will bring
- Make a list of your staff members
- Mention in detail what you would like to film
- Make a detailed time schedule
Step 1 takes about one week to get processed. Once the permit is given out, we will inform you.
Step 2 - Costs
Costs for several needs:
- SIMAKSI: Rp. 10,000,000, valid for 2 weeks only
- Entrance fee to the National Park Bromo-Tengger-Semeru per day per person:
- Domestic: Rp. 27,000
- Foreigner: Rp. 215,000

- Cast and others:
- Local movie talent per day, starts: Rp. 750,000/person
- Horse per day: Rp. 200,000
- Shaman: Rp. 1,000,000/ceremony per shaman
- Traditional dancer: Rp. 2,000,000/show
- Porter: Rp. 200,000/per person per day
- Guide: Rp. 700,000/per person per day
- Transport per car per day:
- Jeep per day: Rp. 900,000
- Classic Land Rover: Rp. 1,100,000
- Other cars on request
Terms and conditions involved
- Filming can be carried out after the preparation stage
- Filming:
- shouldn't change, add or reduce local natural beauty with artificial decorations or by using "filming tricks"
- shouldn't damage the vegetation or disturb the animals living in the area
- shouldn't conflict with or violate the purpose of natural resource conservation
- is not allowed outside the area as described in the permit
- The crew will follow regulations for visitors in accordance with the applicable laws
- The permit applicant will take full responsibility for the actions of his crew while filming when in the conservation area
- (An) inspector(s) engaged by the PHKA and the local Nature Conservation Unit will accompany while filming
- The crew will follow the instructions of local officials designated for safety and public order and security of the region, flora, or/and fauna
- The permit applicant will provide the replacement costs for accommodation, food, and transportation allowances for officers coming on the trip, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Finance
- The permit applicant will hand over 1 copy of the video/film/documentary/commercial to PHKA and the local Nature Conservation Unit no later than 1 month after completion
- The permit applicant will be responsible for any damage in the conservation area as a result of filming and rehabilitate the area or reimburse the cost of rehabilitation
- In case of violation or disrespect of the statements above, the permit applicant will be imposed sanctions in accordance with the laws and regulations
